OUR STORY

Down To Earth was created in 2002, originally a home-based kitchen that has grown and developed into Bali’s best known and trusted health food restaurants and marketplaces. The founder and director of Down To Earth is Liat Solomon, a trained nutritionist, macrobiotic educator, counsellor and vegetarian chef.

The food served at Down To Earth venues has from the very beginning been created and perfected by Liat using her extensive nutritional knowledge. Our foods and products are all sourced ethically and sustainably.

We have always supported struggling communities in Bali, Indonesia and around the world and are committed to preserving ethics, integrity and a common vision for the wellbeing of the earth.

At DTE it is our mission to continue to support and share with those less fortunate than ourselves, and in doing so nourish our customers with the best quality food possible. DTE has two outlets, Earth Cafe & Market in Seminyak and Ubud.


MARKETPLACES

Earth Cafe restaurants also house Earth Market, which stocks thousands of products, each carefully selected for the highest quality and that fit with Down To Earth’s ethos and values.

Our marketplaces are filled with items that promote healthy lifestyles, many of which are made using natural and sustainable ingredients by environmentally-conscious, local workforces. Available product lines include hand and body soaps, household cleaning products, literature, clothing, cosmetics, jewellery, nutritional supplements, grains, fresh fruits, prepared spices, baked goods such as cookies, and much more.

We offer for sale over a thousand different products, each carefully selected for the highest quality. Although our menu is 100% vegan, due to customer demand we have made the decision to continue to stock a small amount of honey and associated products. By doing so we are supporting local charities and projects that create a livelihood for communities in West Bali.


RESTAURANTS

Down To Earth’s restaurants are renowned in Bali for serving innovative, delicious and sustainable meals which are created with our founder’s extensive knowledge of macrobiotics. The restaurants operate according to strict Western standards of food preparation, handling, and preservation. Some of the food products are imported and all the vegetables are locally grown and from certified organic farms.

Spring water is used for washing and sorting of vegetables. Each and every ingredient that is used has been well thought out and products are always chosen for their inherent quality. Down To Earth meets the highest standards of food preparation and sourcing to use the right ingredients in an appropriate manner. In 2016 Down To Earth announced that Earth Cafe's menu would be entirely vegan, and no longer use honey, bee pollen or any animal based products.

Down To Earth’s brands all reflect the company ethos of compassionate non-violence and health-conscious living. Talented chefs and nutritional experts push the boundaries of plant-based products to create innovative brands under the DTE umbrella. Superfood supplements with unique, difficult to source ingredients sit alongside our in-house juice brand, which consists of only organic, cold pressed juices.

Our events aim to make healthy, compassionate living accessible to all, with The Bali Vegan festival growing in scope year to year and many other events and activities in the pipeline. Our specialised children’s division provides the educational tools to encourage healthy eating from a young age; sitting in conjunction with our designated children’s menu.
